A changing bag carries the things you reach for most often in a day: nappies, wipes, spare clothes and feeding kit. When it's badly organised, a quick nappy change turns into a one-handed search through loose items at the bottom of a bag, usually while holding a wriggling baby. A well-designed baby nappy bag keeps everything in a predictable place, protects your changing mat and bottles from the rest of your belongings, and attaches securely to a pram so you're not juggling bags on top of everything else. Getting this right matters more in the early months, when you're carrying the most gear and have the least free capacity to deal with a bag that isn't working for you.
We compared 10 popular changing bags and changing backpacks against five practical criteria: storage and organisation, comfort when carrying a full load, durability of materials and hardware, how well the bag travels and attaches to a pram, and how useful it stays once nappy days are over.
Before comparing individual bags, it helps to know which of these five factors matters most for your day-to-day routine, since no single bag scores highest on all of them.
Look at compartment count rather than just overall size. A bag with one large main compartment and no dividers gets messy fast, while a bag with dedicated nappy, wipe, bottle and personal-item pockets stays usable even when it's full. An insulated bottle pocket, like those on the Lola&Lykke Multifunctional Changing Bag, keeps milk at a safer temperature for longer without a separate cooler bag.

(Lola&Lykke Multifunctional Changing Bag)
A full changing bag is heavier than it looks once you add nappies, wipes, a change of clothes and bottles. Padded, adjustable straps make a real difference over a full day out, and a bag that converts between backpack and shoulder styles gives you the option to switch when one shoulder gets tired.
Wipe-clean or machine-washable linings matter more than the look of the outer fabric, since spills are inevitable. Check whether the whole bag is machine washable or only spot-cleanable, and look for reinforced stitching at stress points such as strap attachments and the base.
Stroller clips that fit your specific pram, a shape that sits flat rather than swinging, and a size that qualifies as hand luggage all make a bag easier to live with when you're out for the day or travelling.
Several bags in this guide, including the Lola&Lykke Multifunctional Changing Bag and the KAOS Ransel, are designed so a removable changing mat is the only baby-specific element. Once nappies are behind you, the bag itself still works as an everyday tote, backpack or work bag, which changes the value calculation on a higher-priced option.

Once you've narrowed down your shortlist, the biggest remaining decision is usually the bag's overall shape and how you'll carry it.
Pros: quick to swing round for a fast nappy change, often looks less like a dedicated baby bag, and easy to hand off between parents.
Cons: carrying a full bag on one shoulder for a whole day can strain the shoulder and neck, and it's harder to keep both hands free.
Pros: weight is spread evenly across both shoulders, both hands stay free for a pram or a toddler, and most convert easily onto a stroller.
Cons: can be slower to access on the move, since you usually need to take it off to open it fully.
Pros: typically the widest, easiest opening for finding things quickly, and often the style that looks most like a regular handbag.
Cons: carried on one shoulder or in the hand, so the same fatigue issue as messenger bags applies once the bag is fully loaded.

A higher price usually buys three things: materials that hold up to daily washing and years of use, hardware such as zips and clips that don't fail under a full load, and a design plain enough to keep using once nappies are no longer part of the picture. A £30 bag that needs replacing after eight months can end up costing more over two years than a £100 to £150 bag that's still going strong, and still in use as an everyday bag, well past that point. That's the thinking behind bags like the Lola&Lykke Multifunctional Changing Bag and the KAOS Ransel, both designed so the baby-specific element, the changing mat, is removable rather than built in. If you're only expecting to use a bag for a few months, or you already have a good everyday bag and just need a separate pouch and mat, a budget option such as the Lekebaby backpack is a reasonable choice instead.
There is no single best baby changing bag for every parent, because the right choice depends on how you carry it, how much you need to pack and how long you want it to last. The Skip Hop Forma is a strong, widely available all-rounder for most budgets, the Lola&Lykke Multifunctional Changing Bag suits parents who want one bag that works well beyond the baby years, the Storksak St James Luxe Scuba offers maximum room and an easy-to-wipe-clean finish, and the Lekebaby Nappy Changing Backpack is the pick for anyone on a tighter budget.
A dedicated changing bag is worth buying if you want nappies, wipes, spare clothes and feeding kit organised and within reach, rather than digging through a regular handbag or rucksack. The insulated pockets, wipe-clean linings and stroller attachments built into changing bags solve specific everyday problems that ordinary bags don't. That said, some parents are happy adapting a bag they already own with a separate pouch and changing mat, so it comes down to how much organisation and hands-free carrying you need.
A backpack style tends to suit parents who want both hands free, for example when carrying a baby or pushing a pram one-handed, and it distributes weight more evenly across the shoulders. A messenger or shoulder bag is often quicker to swing round for a fast nappy change and can look less like a dedicated baby bag, but carrying it fully loaded for a full day can be tiring on one shoulder. Several bags in this guide, including the Storksak St James and the Finnsøn SIGRID, convert between styles so you're not locked into one choice.
Most parents use a changing bag daily from birth until their child is out of nappies, typically two to three years, though many keep using the same bag as a general day bag well beyond that. This is why several bags in this guide, including the Lola&Lykke Multifunctional Changing Bag and the KAOS Ransel, are designed so the changing mat can be removed once you no longer need it, leaving a smart everyday bag behind.
A well-packed changing bag usually holds nappies, a pack of wipes, a changing mat, nappy sacks or a wet bag, a spare set of clothes, a muslin cloth, and feeding essentials such as bottles, formula or breast milk storage bags. Many parents also add a small first aid kit, hand sanitiser, a dummy, and a couple of toys or teethers to keep little ones occupied. Insulated pockets are particularly useful for keeping a bottle or breast milk cool or warm while you're out.

My new favorite pump so far. Have been using it for 2 weeks and absolutely love it. The suction is strong, fully empty my breast in 25 mins. And the best part? For me it's the quiet operation + long battery life. Highly recommend it 👌
fabulous product! I started using it as my secondary pump while doing chores around the house or when I just want to relax on the couch. Im still trying to figure out how all the different pumping modes work but overall it's very good.
I've tried several different breastpumps, but this one was definitely the best for me!
Kodin ulkopuolella on kätevää pumpata maidot suoraan pussiin.
Minun ensimmäinen tuplapumput, joten en osaa vertailla muihin bändeihin.
Pumpuilla on kunnon tehot. Olen saanut hyvin rinnat tyhjennettyä n. vartissa.
Kiitos paljon kattavasta palautteestasi. Tällaiset käytännön huomiot ovat meille todella arvokkaita. ❤️
