Ann Bacon

Registered Nurse, Chair of WGH Advisory Board

I am a Registered Nurse and have cared for new mothers, babies, and young children in a clinical setting for over 20 years. I offer evidence-based information in a supportive and encouraging manner to help women feel successful as they care for themselves and their new babies. I provide information to help new mothers understand the physical and emotional changes that occur postnatally and share information about a newborn's rapid growth and development which can help new mothers better understand their baby's behavior.

During pregnancy and the postpartum period, a lot of things do change, of course, but for new mothers, some of the starkest differences are also the most intimate ones—the emotional changes. A new parent might have had unrealistic expectations of new parenthood, and they might find it hard not having much time to themselves. The transition into parenthood, enjoyable and satisfying for some, may feel like you are drowning to others. The first year of life with a new baby is a constant and demanding job that can involve sleepless nights, spells of crying and at times not knowing what to do. Birth and breastfeeding involve many physical changes and recovery can take time.

As a mother of two, I know being a new mother can feel overwhelming at times. My goal is to help alleviate new mums' anxieties and help them feel more confident as they embark on their exciting new roles.
